  1. Fuses                             by The Jolly Roger

  3. You would be surprised how many files are out there that use what 
  4. falls under the category of a "fuse." They assume that you just 
  5. have a few lying around, or know where to get them. Well, in some 
  6. parts of the country, fuses are extremely hard to come by... so 
  7. this file tells you how to make your own. Both fuses presented 
  8. here are fairly simple to make, and are fairly reliable.
  9.  
  10. SLOW BURNING FUSE
  11. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (approx. 2 inches per minute)
  12.  
  13. Materials needed:
  14.  
  15.  - Cotton string or 3 shoelaces
  16.  - Potassium Nitrate or Potassium Chlorate
  17.  - Granulated sugar
  18.  
  19. Procedure:
  20.  
  21.  - Wash the cotton string or showlaces in HOT soapy water, then 
  22. rinse with fresh water
  23.  
  24.  - Mix the following together in a glass bowl:
  25.    1 part potassium nitrate or potassium chlorate
  26.    1 part granulated sugar
  27.    2 parts hot water
  28.  
  29.  - Soak strings or shoelaces in this solution
  30.  
  31.  - Twist/braid 3 strands together and allow them to dry
  32.  
  33.  - Check the burn rate to see how long it actually takes!!

  35. FAST BURNING FUSE
  36. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (40 inches per minute)
  37.  
  38. Materials needed:
  39.  
  40.  -Soft cotton string
  41.  -fine black powder (empty a few shotgun shells!)
  42.  -shallow dish or pan
  43.  
  44. Procedure:
  45.  
  46.  - moisten powder to form a paste
  47.  
  48.  - twist/braid 3 strands of cotton together
  49.  
  50.  - rub paste into string and allow to dry
  51.  
  52.  - Check the burn rate!!!
